Back to basics is where the beginner cake decorating enthusiast starts. This class is open to all beginners, (we will except any mature child over the age of 13, however we'd like to meet the student beforehand). We do suggest that once you have attended this class you enrol on our preparation of sponge base or preparation of a fruit cake class. Back to basics is an excellent class for beginners wishing to learn the basic skills in cake decorating. We will be executing all the techniques today on a 'faux cake'. This ensures all students start with the perfect base. You will be shown how to cover your base with professional sugarpaste and we will explain how this differs from commercially purchased roll out icing. We will show you how to colour the paste and produce a smooth finish like the professionals. You will be shown how to texture the board. Pipe around the base, add ribbon and embellish the sides with a swag finish. To complete your cake we will demonstrate how to use cutters and moulds then under guidance you will be let loose to decorate your cake and make it personal. 

Course Location:

This course is held in our new teaching facility “The Studio”. Free Car parking is available very nearby. “The Studio” is situated within yards of the local Bus Station and Taxi Rank, with only a 5-minute walk to the town Train Station (with an hourly service 7 days a week to most locations including London and crewe). Based in the heart of the midlands Atherstone is on the main A5 national route and close to the M42 motorway, allowing easy acess to Birmingham Airport. The Studio offers an informal relaxed atmosphere and as we only cater for small numbers, it ensures you will get a very close and personal teaching experience. The course price includes everything you need including an 8” faux cake, We will provide all the ingredients, materials, the use of all sugarcraft tools, equipment. Course attendees will receive student discount on items purchased in the cake decorating supplies shop on the day of your course. Liquid refreshments are available free of charge.
