As we welcome 2019, we have to say what a wonderful year 2018 was. With over 200 students coming through our doors, last year we know we are doing things right. Many have set up their own cake decorating business, with some going onto win awards at Cake International. Unfortunately, we were unable to compete in the 2018, Cake International Best College Competition, due to both work commitments, and we felt as Lynda is part of the C.I. judging team it may be seen as bias. Winning consecutively for two years running is something were very proud of and will continue to offer the same 100% commitment and dedication to our classes and students.
This year is our 7thyear of trading so we decided a new updated look was required. Matthew has re vamped our website and hopefully made it easier for you to book classes. We have changed our colour theme to that of the modern grey and hope you like the new frontage of our premises. Our newly appointed advertising manager Steph, has designed us a new brand look which we hope to be using shortly on all our literature
Classes are increasing in popularity and we have been lucky to add many new tutors to our list as hosts. We were very privileged to host the first and only UK class with one of the world’s top cake Artist Karen Portaleo, all the way from Georgia in the USA, last November. Due to the success of this 2-day class we have managed to get Karen back to the studio in June of this year and will be offering 3 total new class's. Each class will only cater for a maximum of 9 students, so you can be sure of receiving the excellent and individual tuition that our lucky 9 students received in 2018.
We have plans to host many more top artists over the year and will be welcoming back our very own Rhianydd Webb, named UK top 10 artist by Cake masters. Of course, our Head of school, judge and author of many magazine tutorials, Lynda Gilbey will be around to run many classes, during her very busy year, including our very own NEW certificate in all aspects of Cake Decorating. The ‘CAS Certificate’ will offer 4 modules for the beginner upwards, covering Sugarpaste, Royal Icing, Sugar flowers and Modelling. These classes are to offer tuition only, which will keep the costs of the course to a minimum.
Lynda has quite a busy schedule this year, starting in January where she is the Senior judge for our local college N.W.H.C Salon Culinaire Cake Decorating Competition. In March she is off to Belfast where she has been asked to act as a lead judge for the new cake show ‘Northern Ireland Sugarcraft Expo’ and will of course be back in time to judge at London Cake International early April. With her love of everything cake and years of lecturing with expert knowledge she is highly thought of and often requested to visit and demonstrate all over the UK.
This year we hope to offer online tutorials via our website and introduce a new accredited qualification FDQ level 3, this will replace the ABC Awards which we have decided to delete from our schedule.
As there are no family marriages planned for 2019 (unless Matthew springs one us), we are also planning a new online shop for our sister company CakeArt Creations. Work on this site is very slow as unfortunately just before we were ready to upload to the Web everything was lost. Please bear with us and check back in the next 6 months
So, to end a big thank you from everyone here at ‘The CakeArt Studio’ for your loyal support. We look forward to meeting old and new students in the following months and remember If we don’t offer a class or cover a subject you wish to learn, Lynda is always available to design a bespoke 1.2.1 class just for you
Happy New Year xx
